What a delight to be able to explore the “New Fashions for the New Woman” exhibition at #UniversityofYork. The exhibition does a wonderful job of showing the politics woven into women’s rapidly changing #fashions in the #20thcentury. The exhibition only runs until April 20 so catch it while you can!

The #Samurai exhibition at #TheBritishMuseum is enthralling. I knew very little of substance about the #history of the samurai beyond representations in popular culture but this exhibit illuminated so much about the truth behind the legends.

Such a delightful morning exploring the new #JaneAustenExperience in #London. From being greeted by an actor portraying #MaryCrawford to trying on #bonnets and taking a moment to indulge in some scandalous #gossip over a game of #Speculation, it was highly entertaining all around! #janeaustenlondon

This weekend I stayed at #Henry’sTownhouse, a boutique hotel in #London in the former home of #JaneAusten’s brother Henry! The rooms are inspired by members of the Austen family and the hotel has a bound copy of #TheLoiterer, a periodical run by Jane’s brothers James & Henry when they were at Oxford

The last post from our magical #Outlander inspired road trip is of pictures from our boat ride on #LochNess out to the ruins of #UrquhartCastle, and pictures from an afternoon at #ChanonryPointLighthouse watching a storm blow in over #MorayFirth.

The next stops on our #Outlander road trip were the #ClavaCairns, 4,000 year old standing stones surrounding ring cairns that inspired #CraignaDun and the #ClootieWell, where legend has it that if you dip a rag or “Clootie” into the well and hang it on one of the nearby trees, it has healing powers

Next stop on our road trip was the #Outlander inspired part of our journey. We stayed at #CullodenHouse, exciting for two traveling 18th century scholars because of its historical significance, its Adam interiors, and for the cups of tea & glasses of whiskey we enjoyed by the cozy fireplaces!

Next stop on my road trip through history was #LindisfarneCastle! The castle was built in the 1540s but the interior is presented by the @nationaltrust.org.uk as it would have looked in the early 20th century after the owner of ‘Country Life’ magazine bought and renovated the castle.

This spring break a friend and I embarked on a #roadtrip through #history, starting with the 2,000 year old #RomanFort at @vindolandatrust.bsky.social It was breathtaking to see the excavated footprint of the streets, buildings, and plumbing, and to see the personal artifacts in the museum.

On a recent visit to #London I had the chance to pop into one of my favorite hidden gems, the #CharlesDickensMuseum on Doughty St, to see their current #exhibition “Extra/Ordinary Women.” The intriguing items on display shed light on the #women who supported #CharlesDickens and inspired his writing.

Stepping into the Eye of York for Colour & Light was like stepping into a fairy ring and suddenly being able to see all the ghosts of York’s past! The magical projections on #Clifford’sTower and #YorkCastleMuseum were inspired by #York legends, from the Filey Brigg #Dragon to #GuyFawkes.
