There is a lot of undeveloped private land in the area, but it appears the fire is fully within USDA land, and unless it gets hit with high winds this afternoon I'm inclined to believe it will be held on USFS land.

BREAKING: Appears the suspect who shot and killed firefighters near Coeur d’Alene is dead. “SWAT team located a deceased male on Canfield Mountain. A firearm was found nearby”.

I'm devastated to learn that two people have died in the shooting targeting firefighters in Kootenai County, and more are injured. I'm holding their families, friends, and fellow first responders in my heart.

For those who aren't familiar with this area, Coeur d'Alene is nestled in forested mountains, with a lake on the south side. CdA is a decent-sized city for our state, but you can easily drive a few minutes outside of city limits and be surrounded by trees.

North Idaho News on Facebook is reporting an active shooter situation at Canfield Mountain in Kootenai County. I am listening to the ISP scanner, and they said they believe someone intentionally set a fire and shot at responding firefighters. That lines up with what people are saying on FB.
