Court ruling, per CBDLF: “HB900’s mandatory ratings system is an unconstitutional attempt by the government to compel speech. The standards for assessing books in HB900 are unconstitutionally vague. HB900’s restrictions on distributing books impose an unconstitutional prior restraint.”

Between bad laws like this one (even if they may be meant in good spirit) and de facto censorship by credit card companies, like... it's one of greatest external problems to our business.

just watched our youth collections librarian be forced to remove 90% of our libraries' manga bc of texas legislation and i truly hate it here. this level of censorship is anti-intellectualism and against what it means to be a free country

Yeah no: Alberta gov't claims to allay school book ban concerns by revising order to clarify that won't apply to a "written passage", just a "visual depiction" – in other words, only graphic novels and manga are targeted. Targeted books for removal include Gender Queer and Fun Home.
