December 2024 of Rust: - I accomplished what I set out to do to start learning Rust. The holidays took over, being lazy and off work, but squeezing in time was worth the effort. I just got into a habit of adding more than needed for what I set out to do. The only reason I haven't been posting code

Day 29 of Rust: - Code is getting back to normal. - Going to finish the basic functionality I've been working on and this will become my project to keep working on to keep my Rust skills from getting...oh you know. 😅

When I volunteered at the Library of Congress, I learned that the computer used to regulate the temp within the enclosure that protects one of the original Gutenberg bibles was turned off 2 times, one being December 31, 1999.

Maybe those were being suppressed on the other site but they are almost like ads over here.

Day 28 of Rust: - Had 2 calm my ambitious & slow down a bit. Plenty of time to do more with BurritoSec c2. I'm really liking Rust (but I won't be writing a Medium article about why I love Rust and never looked back, though I'm way out of line. :) - Focusing on rox and setting up the RAT.

i gave a presentation on creating an incident response toolkit back in 2019 at Educause. This is my all-time fav feedback from any conference I've presented: "You were very technical and also very calming; a rare combination."

Troubleshooting has begun. I'm loosening wires & flipping the power switch on the power supply. Starting external & then will start teaching them troubleshooting on the internals of the PC. Then, they'll start learning why the sound doesn't work, fortnite won't start, etc. My doc is in curriculum,

Day 27 of Rust: - Changed to using the winreg crate, it's simpler. - Splitting the code to reduce the RAT and rox's file size to win & Linux. MacOS next month. - Code is currently a mess with the changes. - Postponed service on Windows until code separation is finished. - Added installed software

Day 26 of Rust: - nuffin yesterday. - Back to working on running windows RAT as a service. - Postponing video until 1/31, last 30 days of Rust. After some work with the registry, I got more ideas for enumeration. Even when learning a language, i go down rabbit holes and have to learn more! :)

I am increasingly convinced that most organizations need to opt-in to processing datastores with RAG, not the current "opt-out for the sensitive stuff." Real talk: most of us don't have good enough data inventories or large enough risk appetites to support opt-out.

Day 24 of Rust: - Testing and debugging running the RAT as a windows service. I don't know if I will do anything tomorrow, but we'll see. I got exciting gifts for my boyz.

Day 22 & 23 of Rust: - Worked on adding some persistence locations on Linux and Windows. Currently, it will choose from 2 locations - more will be added later. It saves the location on the c2 for the respective compromised host.

Day 21 of Rust: - updating the RAT 2 read its config from a file on linux and the registry on Windows. - updating rox to perform those activities before it downloads the RAT. I might demo HTML smuggling with BurritoSec c2.
