After a few decades post clear cutting, ectomycorrhizal fungal communities are still slowly recovering and certain species are still more likely to be found in the forest rather than on the forest edges or openings.

Really cool study on ectomycorrhizal decomposers, that use manganese peroxidases to degrade organic matter (most likely to mine nitrogen). The authors identify 10 taxa as EcM decomposers (mostly Cortinarius spp.) and look into their niches 👇🧪🌍🍄 besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

A species I really wanted to see this year was Eurasian lynx. We found plenty of tracks in the snow during the previous winters, we had two different individuals on our camera trap right next to our house last winter and went out looking several times with a thermal imaging camera, without luck.

Pleurotus pulmonarius belongs to the oyster mushrooms. It lives on dead wood of deciduous trees. As wood contains little nitrogen sources, these fungi can form little lassos with their hyphae, which are used to trap small soil animals which serve as food source. #fungifact #serverfungifact 🍄📷🧪🦠
