We're honored to host the 82nd Florida Professional Firefighters Convention. It was inspiring to address a room full of people who sacrifice so much and who believe deeply in public service. Thanks to the JAFF 122 for your partnership and for bringing your colleagues together from around the state.

All month long, I’ve been visiting local businesses across the city to celebrate National Small Business Month. Last week, I joined Councilwoman Tyrona Clark-Murray at Rain Drop Mobile Detailing at Beaver and Edgewood. Since 2015, Jerome Warren and his crew detail 20+ cars a day - all by hand!

As pilgrims from around the world and Jacksonville complete their Hajj, we reflect on the story of Abraham, honored by Muslims, Jews and Christians. Eid al-Adha reminds us of devotion, compassion and shared humanity. Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate.

Today, we commemorate May 20, 1865, 11 days after the end of the Civil War, and two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was first issued, when word finally reached Florida and enslaved African Americans here learned they were free.

All month long, I’ll be visiting local businesses across the city to celebrate National Small Business Month. Yesterday, City Councilman Ken Amaro and I picked up some amazing donuts from the Donut Shoppe. This family-run Arlington institution has been in business since 1962!

Winn-Dixie has been here for nearly 90 years, and we're grateful they'll remain for years to come. As part of the recent agreement with the City, they will keep its headquarters here, add an additional 200 high-paying jobs, and make a $65 million dollar capital investment into local operations.
