The Sakura Blossom Festival is the best event for people watching right off my back porch. People stop to sit on the tiny hill and take photos under the cherry trees out back all day. A lot of folks are dressed in kimonos and other traditional Japanese dress.

My brother had to certify college softball bat density pre-game at his job the other day, while I went and bought macarons at the local bakery that matched nail polish colors for my employer. My dad says we both do unusual things for our jobs sometimes. I have to agree. Funny part, I am a chemist.

The past week I have been trying to train myself to drive slower so I get better gas mileage and its going about as well as you would expect for someone used to going at least 80 mph on the highway, which means I have zero chill and have a twitchy eye on arrival.

Found out another family member has cancer, but apparently its the kind that is non-fatal and just requires some (dietary) lifestyle changes after surgery. They just had thyroid surgery. Like damn 3/5 siblings have had cancer at this point. I feel like the area they grew up has partly to do with it.

It's so, so important right now that everyone reads or watches Persepolis. Convince your grandparents to do it. Your friends. Your children. War cannot happen if we see each other as human beings with souls and those in power will try very, very hard to make sure that doesn't happen.

I am fairly convinced that COVID has seriously messed with word recall and memory retention far more than my psych meds alone have. I have had COVID twice now and my brain has been frustratingly screwier during and after each one.

Story time: way back in the 00s, in one of my quant chemistry lab partners was from Lebanon and many of her family lived in Baghdad when Shock and Awe went down. She would be on the phone and the connection would abruptly cut out due to the US bombing the fuck out of the area.

"Have you ever thought you let your mental illness get in the way of your happiness?" What the actual fuck? The dipshittery of this statement is just another hurdle. Get tf out of my way. I don't need your garbage takes, because the decadent richness of life isn't just "happy" you fool.

Tatjana Wood has apparently passed away at age 99. Her father was Jewish so during WW2 her parents sent her to the Netherlands, then NY. She studied as a dressmaker, met/married Wallace Wood and began assisting him, then pivoted to becoming one of the best colorists in comics.

This is excellent news. The thread and comments keep saying "unethical" without making clear why. The study would have not given hep-b vaccines to half (~2000) of the infants in the study to see what happened. Think Tuskegee:
