The Federal Transit Administration released its annual report on new transit projects to fund. The report recommends a total of just $1.2 b for existing & new projects, a massive reduction from previous years. The federal role in funding new transit projects is being decimated.

Connectivity creates access which creates value. That is, if you believe the decades of research by the late Prof Bill Hillier who created Space Syntax, which I used to compare street network maps of Dallas pre-highway and present day.

The Jefferson/Houston viaduct changes started with a convo between me and two asst city managers in 2016 to open up land and downtown views on the Oam Farms site. The city willing to sacrifice connectivity for a silver bullet is why downtown is in the state it is.

Boy, what a terrible headline. We *need* the wealthy to participate in public services. If only poor people ride the bus, then rich people won't wield their power in support of public transit or, worse, will wield their power *against* it.

It is a success compared to every other American city in that the metro was funded by stopping a highway and achieving that bare minimum. We must compare apples to apples. But yes, we should all aim higher. It failed less against the tidal wave of highway dollars.

2025 population numbers dropped for today - confirming my grim observations about Dallas. The DFW metroplex is one of the fast growing in the country, but none of the growth accrued to the urban core. Dallas County lost 2,616 people at the same time its neighbor Collin County gained 42,966 people.

This is how you win in Texas. Most Texans, particularly young Texans' knowledge of the bible is exceptionally shallow. It isnt about the bible. Church is the de facto third space in Texas sprawl where people go to find community and young people want to fit in. Fitting in means voting republican.

I guess they all just learned their lesson.
