Since the timeline is awash in terrible things about how men treat women and girls, I want to tell one little story about how it could be. Near the end of my PhD I was at a conference. It was fun, although mostly not my usual crowd. I ended up hanging out with some fun folks.

As a white woman in science, I do/don’t fit in the status quo. The experience described here sounds like my experience attending NSBP-NSHP over the years: the wonderful sense of community and mutual celebration that is intentionally part of those events (and mostly absent from status quo ones)

PSA as more of us put on wool coats (or similar): you know that X of thread, holding the flap(s) at the back of your coat closed? Those are to keep the garment tidy before sale. You are meant to snip it so that the flap(s) can function correctly when worn. (Can also apply to: blazers, skirts, etc)

We’re now watching the murder of space sciences in America. Unless someone can stop this, this is the beginning of the end. The brain drain will accelerate until there’s nothing left to stay for. 🧪🔭

Why? NASA is a crown jewel of US science and an international inspiration. Its logo adorns hoodies worn by young and old. The most famous telescopes could not have existed without Goddard and shutting down parts of it, even temporarily, cuts off the life blood for future missions. Why kill NASA?!?
