I just read the new SPINAL TAP book and there’s a moment where Rob Reiner and the rest of the cast ask each other which projects will lead their obituary. Rob was sure “Meathead” was going to be the first line of his. Tonight, everyone’s teeing off with “one of the greatest directing runs ever”

Rob Reiner also co-founded Castle Rock Entertainment with a goal of freeing filmmakers. Besides Rob Reiner’s own output, Castle Rock produced key indie films by Whit Stillman, Richard Linklater, John Sayles, and Christopher Guest. And broke into TV with Seinfeld.

Rob Reiner rarely got credit as a great director, but he made great movies that people LOVED. That were TIMELESS, and that multiple generations have subsequently found and adored. You can’t do much better with a career than that.

It’s hard to ever know from a distance who is a good person. We’re all flawed in one way or another. But right about now, it hits a little harder when the world loses someone who seemed good and kind and who wanted a better life for more folks. Thank you, Rob Reiner. You left quite a legacy.

Are we having this car speed discussion? Here’s my operating philosophy: -On a clear, dry day during daylight, you can reasonably exceed the speed limit by 10% on the highway. -Change any of those factors above, and you should probably stay at the limit or below it.

As far as non-traditional Christmas songs go, I love Nick Lowe’s Christmas at the Airport, and will sing it loud and proud in the car to myself.

My favourite Christmas song has been “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” for as long as I can remember. But somehow, “Sleigh Ride” has emerged as a strong contender this year.
