In his address to Parliament, Somaliland’s Foreign Minister outlined the following priority areas for his tenure: 1) Strategic Foreign Policy: Develop a comprehensive foreign policy framework with input and approval from parliamentarians.

Somaliland's Parliament approved the appointment of the new Foreign Minister, Cabdiraxmaan Daahir Aadan Bakaal. In the vote held this morning, 59 MPs supported the decision, 3 opposed it, and 3 abstained.

#Somaliland’s new Foreign Minister hints that the MoU with #Ethiopia may not align with Somaliland’s best interest. The FM stated that the govt. is still yet to see the details of the MoU, emphasising that its viability will be assessed after the govt. examines the agreement.

A policy question for the Government of Somaliland - should Somaliland continue accepting returnees deported by Western Governments to Hargeisa when the same governments fail to respect our sovereignty by refusing to deport the perpetrators of genocide back to our jurisdiction?

Somalia is attempting to walk a precarious diplomatic tight rope with Ethiopia & Egypt, a strategy that will ultimately leave both it and the region at a disadvantage.
