Sooo... Akihabara. Still don't know how to feel about it. It's mostly a tourist-trap these days. Hordes of people, tons of basic (Naruto etc.) anime plastic crap and they seem to dial-up the boob-factor year by year. Still, a visit can be justified, every now and then one can find something nice.

The ROM for the unreleased Virtual Boy game Virtual League Baseball 2 has surfaced online. It was planned to be released in 1996 but was ultimately shelved. About 3 decades later and we can now play this once lost game. Play ball!

Yesterday was toad-trip day with the brilliant @megamatttv.bsky.social and @dark1x.bsky.social: game-shops, snacks and and evening of Yakiniku - great times and a few really nice ganes I found of course.

A quick PSA: @yuzokoshiro.bsky.social 's Earthion is out on current-gen consoles now and it's all we could have hoped for - one of the absolutely best Mega Drive shooters ever made, a technical marvel with fantastic music and lots of gameplay-nuance. A modern classic.

The western release Lunar: Eternal Blue is turning 30 today - this RPG for Sega/Mega CD is one of the most accomplished games on the system - and today finally playable on current hardware.

A quick one for #randomgamesaturday: Final Fantasy Tactics. The original localization might be a bit iffy, as is the balancing in places... but this is after all those years still one of the best games ever made. A towering artistic achievement and tremendously fun.

I've seen people say Dragon Quest VII Reimagined looks bad and I disagree. The level of respect they put into Toriyama's original artwork is impressive.

40 years ago, Nintendo released what they thought would be the final statement for Famicom-carts. What they really released was a game that influenced and changed its medium like only few others ever did. A visionary game, still most entertaining so much later. Happy Birthday, #SuperMarioBros.!

Here's Golden Axe Warrior for #randomgamesaturday. One of the best action-adventures for Master System and never released in Japan. It's very expensive nowadays; I bought it on sale when it was still new, but the Master System was slowly faded out by stores at the time. It was 50DM back then.

23 years ago, Hiroshi Iuchi's Ikaruga came to Dreamcast: an exceptional action-game with a heavy puzzle-influence and nowadays sort-of infamous as the one shooting-game that's familiar to most "normies" and therefore always used as a point for comparison when talking or writing about shooting-games.

29 years ago today Beyond the Beyond came to the US and me and my friends were hyped beyond belief. The first REAL, ACTUAL PlayStation-RPG. Sure, we had Persona und King's Field, but those were different. BtB even had the japanese box-art! Mindboggling! However, the game turned out to be, hmm... 1/5

There is genuinely no bigger disappointment in all of video games than seeing a game you're highly anticipating emblazoned with the words "Game Key Card".
