Turning Gaza into a colonial protectorate is not a basis for lasting peace, let alone justice. This has no mandate, no legitimacy and no popular support from the people living there. The Palestinian people must decide their own future; not Netanyahu, Trump or Blair.

Gaza and the New Age of Genocide
Martin Shaw introduces his new book, published this month. As readers of Labour Hub will be aware, Labour Party Conference passed a resolution recognising that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza. As a genocide scholar, I have been arguing this since October 2023. As genocidal statements by Israeli leaders were followed by huge bombardments of civilian areas and hospitals, it was already becoming clear that Israel intended to destroy Palestinian society in Gaza.

I welcome the relief expressed across Palestine and Israel this morning that a ceasefire appears possible. An end to bombing must become a permanent ceasefire and a flood of aid. For any deal to last, it must recognise Palestinian sovereignty over Gaza and the West Bank.

By Celeste Hicks Around 9pm on a September Sunday evening, the Rt Hon Heidi Alexander MP, Secretary of State for Transport, slipped out the news that Gatwick Airport had been given the go ahead for a second runway. Other partiesâ economic policies do not address the structural problems Wales faces, argues Mike Hedges AM. How, and why, did the Labour leadership prevent a debate on council housing? Martin Wicks investigates. Mark Perryman calls time on the forthcoming Thatcher Centenary. Margaret Thatcher's 13th October 2025 centenary is a moment to reflect on how she, or more accurately 'Thatcherism', so decisively shaped the 1980s - and for ever more too, the post-war consensus she deconstructed and to date never to return. The Labour historian Jim Fyrth describes what framed this consensus that had previously so decisively shaped British society and economy 1945-79: âA mixture of Socialist, Labour, Keynesian, Fabian/Liberal and anti-Fascist ideas that was strongly anti-establishment and anti-capitalist, and was hostile to those who were held responsible for poverty and unemployment and for appeasement of the Fascist dictators.â

High fares hurt working Londoners and students, and exacerbate social isolation â new briefing
Londonâs high public transport fares obstruct access to employment opportunities, education and reasonable living standards, a briefing published today by Fare Free London shows. Working Londoners spend many extra hours a week â and, in some cases, many extra hours a day â commuting, to avoid expensive trains and use cheaper but slower buses. Students tangle with trade-offs between housing costs, which are lower outside the capital, and travel costs that are much higher.

The Global Sumud Flotilla is heading into the final stages of its mission to break Israelâs blockade. Other governments have sent ships to escort the flotilla. Ours has not even spoken up for the safety of participants, including 13 British citizens & at least 3 British ships.
