Re-empowering members will be good for the Party and the country, argues Mike Phipps. The last two weeks have seen Labour rocked by one of the most serious scandals of modern times. Dashty Jamal, just returned from Kurdistan, reports on the fragile situation in Rojava. The Military Escalation of 2026 On January 13th, 2026, a dangerous new chapter of the Syrian conflict began. The āIslamicāDaesh Syrian Government,ā led by Ahmad Sharāa (also known as Mohammad al-Jolani), launched a massive military offensive. The attacks first targeted the Kurdish neighbourhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah in Aleppo, where over 200,000 civilians, primarily internally displaced persons (IDPs), reside.

Lara Parizotto highlights an important omission in the Government's new legislation. The Labour Government has finally introduced the Representation of the People Bill. The long-awaited Bill brings long-overdue reforms to our democracy in the format of votes at 16, expansion of Photo ID rules and moves towards automated voter registration. This Bill, however, fails to live up to its name as it leaves millions of people completely locked out of the ballot box.

āJoin us in reaffirming the Partyās commitment to fairness, participation andĀ integrityā
Brian Leishman MP explains why we should all support the Restore Labour Democracy petition. In the summer of 2025, Labour proposed cuts to disability benefits during the Universal Credit and PIP Bill. From a leadership prepared to declare austerity was over, the reality of taking money on those already living in difficulty and on low income was staggering. I opposed these changes and voted against them, believing firmly that no one should be subjected to income reductions that would directly harm vulnerable families.

But it remains in force pending the governmentās decision on whether to appeal. Liz Davies analyses the judgment. The High Courtās unanimous decision that the 2025 proscription of Palestine Action (PA), was unlawful confirms what many have been saying all along: treating Palestine Action as a terrorist group when their actions amount to crimes ā principally criminal damage ā but not activities traditionally considered terrorism, such as large-scale assault on human life, is disproportionate.
