Motability Cuts Threaten Disabled Independence and Mobility
A statement from Disable People Against the Cuts. DPAC (Disabled People Against Cuts) and Lincolnshire DPAC unequivocally condemn the Motability Scheme changes announced today, which have stripped the scheme of essential, practical vehicles and are being rolled out alongside a deeply damaging and factually incorrect media narrative. The immediate removal of "premium" and non-UK built brandsâincluding BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Lexusâis a devastating blow to the independence and mobility of disabled people.

Ian Hodson looks into the future and makes an assessment of what three years under Reform rule might look like. Foreword: A Nation Rebuilt on Fear When Reform UK swept to power in the 2029 election, taking nearly every English constituency and unexpected gains in Wales and Scotland, supporters declared a new era of pride, sovereignty, and national rebirth.

The Wrong Prescription â Why Labour Must Rethink Its Approach To Asylum
By Rathi Guhadasan The Socialist Health Association condemns the asylum reforms announced this week by Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, which represent a deeply concerning erosion of fundamental health and human rights protections for some of the most vulnerable people in our society. A Betrayal of Health Equity Principles The proposal to make refugee status temporary, subject to regular review every 30 months, and to extend the pathway to settlement from five to twenty years creates a system of prolonged insecurity that is fundamentally incompatible with public health principles.

Carol Turner previews this Saturdayâs upcoming CND Conference. Labour Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has announced what she says are âthe most sweeping asylum reforms in modern times.â Modelled on Danish legislation that is widely regarded as the most oppressive in Europe, her long list of measures includes lengthening the time before which leave to remain can be granted from 5 to 20 years, and making deporting undocumented migrants easier.

But, on the day the Labour government (âa Labour governmentâ) introduces laws that, when I was growing up in multi-ethnic East London, were the preserve of the National Front, I feel compelled. Thatâs why âblue Labourâ is doomed and was doomed from the start: you cannot make water run uphill. A party whose core electorate for over a decade has been socially liberal university graduates and ethnic minorities cannot sell itself as a party hostile to socially liberal values.

Ahead of two upcoming talks about her new book, Eviction: A Social History of Rent, Jessica Field explains how her own familyâs battle led her to explore a history of housing struggles. My parents, brother and 69 neighbour households were finally evicted from their private rental estate in south Leeds in 2022.
