Yesterday, I found that hex colors can have opacities by adding a 2-character alpha value to the end (for 8 chars total). Its called an RGBA hex. So black (#000000) can be 50% opaque as #00000080 or 10% opaque as #0000001A. Its been a thing since 2018! #100Devs #webdev #css

Trying something different with the Nav. It starts as a little button in the top-center of the screen. Clicking it drops it down, carrying the menu with it. Absolute positioning & translate-y based on state did all the work here. The colors are just for testing so I can see. #100Devs #webdev

In the previous iteration of the agency website, I used a Header component to render the hero section for each page. It was called from each page, so they passed props with h1 text. Met up with the friend kiddo #1 made on 4th of July at the 80s concert & her family. Explored the Redwood Grove at Carbon Canyon Regional Park in Yorba Linda. They dug up owl pellets & found animal skulls & other bones.

Took the kiddos to Michael's for arts & crafts. They made autumn wreaths. The kid who runs it is friends with them & my sister from past events. We talked about all kinds of stuff from D&D to comics to anime & movies & video games. It's fun seeing how this generation has carried stuff on.

Kiddos had me watch Kpop Demon Hunters with them after they had burgers with me. It was fun. They played tracks from it on the ride back from the meetup on Thursday & were singing songs from it with @sirashtondev.bsky.social.

Went to Hidden Hills Park on our quest to check out more local parks that we haven't been to. It was nice. Very quiet & broken into different areas connected by pathways.

Tried to take the girls to Walnut Creek Nature Park yesterday. The entrance is behind a gated community. Found a back entrance but it wasn't to the main park, apparently. It was an unfinished area.

Took the girls to MAG Laboratory in Pomona for an event to paint a big picture projected onto a canvas by throwing balloons filled with watercolor paint at it. Ended up learning that it's a makerspace with really interesting people who we hung with for a few hours.

Took the girls to see My Neighbor Totoro at the Regal Theater in Yorba Linda for Ghiblifest. They loved it. Kiddo #2 said it's her favorite movie.

Went to the Learn Teach Code LA meetup in Koreatown with @sirashtondev.bsky.social & the kiddos yesterday. Met a few new folk & caught up with the host. The cat that hits the meetup joined at the end but left because there was no coffee left for it.

Hit Little Tokyo with @sirashtondev.bsky.social & the kiddos yesterday. It was more like how it used to be before ICE. Some places were still boarded up though & there were protesters with signs returning from a protest.

Watched The Neverending Story with the kiddos last night. It's the 3rd movie we've seen together this year. Kiddo #1 made a lot of observations that I didn't catch when I was small & #2 figured out a bunch of things that I didn't when I first saw it - I was 2 years older than her.

Dropped my sister off at work & checked out the Rancho Cucamonga library with the girls. It's posh.

Took the kiddos to an 80s concert & fireworks in Anaheim for Independence Day. Kiddo #2 high-fived one of the vocalists & kiddo #1 made friends with another girl her age.

Had a movie night with the kiddos. I almost never get to do that. Saw Nimona, one of their favorite movies. They've wanted to watch it with me for a year now. It was really fun. Makes me miss my old RPG days.

Tried this hack with the girls that I saw 2 nights ago on YouTube. "Ice cube tray sushi". We didn't have an ice cube tray so kiddo #1 suggested trying with a muffin tray. It's too big, but it still mostly worked.

Went to BF Bakery at the mall in Arcadia because the girls wanted to walk around the mall for a bit before we went home. I think they're associated with 99 Ranch.

Took the kiddos to the arboretum in Arcadia for the first time yesterday. It was hot (94F), but they dug it. They made friends with ducks & squirrels & I taught kiddo #2 crane technique from the original Karate Kid movie. She challenged every peacock there with it: crane vs peacock.
