A new benchmark comparison for MoSX. We're printing a string in SCREEN5 using the GRP: device. On the left we see a #MSX turboR in R800 mode. On the right we see the same, but running interpreted MoSX BASIC. We see a speed improvement of about 33%. We also save over 200 bytes. ✨

I found a big bug in Moonblaster from 1992! It doesn't save all 16 custom voices in the .MBB voice bank file. It saves 144 bytes which is enough for the OPL data, but it forgets to account for the voice name! That would need 225 bytes. So it saves 5 voices and a partial 6th. #MSX

Kinnoji (aka @v9938) has finished work an FRAM-based fast floppy disk replacement cartridge. Nishi had been talking about using this type of memory for #MSX. FRAM can be read and written like RAM and doesn't need the slow erase cycle of FlashROM, yet it retains its contents for up to 50 years!

R800 CPU： R800にしか使われていないセルの中で、構造が複雑なやつらの解析をほぼ完了。Plan Fluor 40x water対物レンズで良い写真が撮れた。パリティジェネレータやイネーブル付きDFFがあった。こいつらなかなか見かけない。 元の石のテープアウト後、自分がR800の回路を再確認した最初の人ではないかと。本家のデータが残っていてもメインフレームと当時のEDAが必要なので今さら無理。 西さんのMSX3のラインナップが流動的なので、本当に役に立つのかという気もするんだが、基本的にはMiSTerや同人エミュレータに使えるソフトコアとしての価値はありそう。
