I agree. This event has been meteorologically astonishing, and its impacts will be felt long after it ends in terms of record low snowpack, sharply increased wildfire risk, and extreme low watershed runoff/streamflow into summer and beyond.

You can see the history of the landscape everywhere: An oak that probably grew in a pasture with scattered trees, likely savanna before that, now surrounded by younger trees. Within sight of our house, which sits close to the edge of open prairie on the 1830s public land survey sketch map.
