Completed the first run of the stainless steel raw casts of my Konkokyo Shinmon pendant sculpt. These have gone through rough glass-bead polish, but must now go through a finer grade polish to work towards a mirror finish. Still much work to do, but I can see the light at the of the tunnel!

Over 120 cranes. Excited to move into such a beautiful blue color!

Today is day 4, and I folded 50 cranes just today! 115 total. I folded a crane in under 2 minutes today, but it wasn't as beautifully folded as my other cranes. It's much easier if I guide the paper to follow creases, rather than trying to force it. The quality of the initial creases matters a lot.

Day 3 of my Senbazuru journey, I made around 15 origami cranes. Not quite my goal of 25 a day, but I'm around 65 total now. I'm getting kind of tired of the green paper, even though green is a beautiful color. I yearn to fold different colors. I am not folding each crane in around 3 minutes!

On my 2nd day of folding Senbazuru, I folded 40 cranes, bringing my total to 50. Maybe I can average 25 a day, and be done in 40 days! Senbazuru was popularized by Sadako Sasaki, a child who survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, who is said to have completed one before her death from Leukemia.

I decided to fold a Senbazuru (千羽鶴), or 1000 paper cranes. They say that a wish is granted to anyone who can fold 1000 in one year! I felt like it would be a good exercise in mindfulness, and help me to avoid doomscrolling and get a heartfelt wish. Day 1 was a humble 10 cranes, just 1% of my goal.

I finished preparing 60 Goshinmai (Sacred rice pouches) for the December month and New Years season 🙏🏼 When I finished, I humbly requested they be blessed by Kami-sama🙇🏻‍♂️

I finally have my Shinto Kamidana set up, with Goshinmai from my local Konkokyo church. It’s serene, beautiful, and precious!

Moving back to the US from Japan & figuring out what on earth to do w/ things I can't relocate and how best to navigate so many recycling categories, schedules, and boundaries has shown me even more the stereotype of minimalism/tidiness in Japan. Ofc most ppl try to b neat in public. But then... 1/3
