My statement on the killing of Alex Pretti and what it says about the state of our democracy.

If Senate Democrats are only finding their spine now, they’re telling us years of abuse, terror, and death were acceptable. Our communities have been crying out for too long that this has to stop. It shouldn’t take a white man’s death for Washington to suddenly grow a conscience.

Late last year at Nationals Park, I ran into Stephen Miller with two bodyguards and was barred from the elevator for “his safety.” I share this as he now labels Alex Pretti a “domestic terrorist” and “assassin.” This is how he sees Americans: with fear and contempt and not as people to serve.

Alex Jeffrey Pretti was a 37-year-old ICU nurse for the VA. Even in his final moments, he was helping someone in need. That speaks to the kind of person he was and who we should all aspire to be. To his family, friends, and all who were touched by his care, my heart breaks for you.

We've just witnessed the public execution of a United States citizen in broad daylight by federal agents. Our democracy will not survive without direct and immediate action by elected officials.

Millions of gallons of raw sewage are spilling into the Potomac River right here in Montgomery County after a 60-year-old sewer pipe collapsed. This is a public health and environmental failure. Aging infrastructure + delayed investment = disasters like this. Clean water is non-negotiable.

Claudette Colvin passed away today at the age of 83. At 15, she refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery months before Rosa Parks. Her courage changed history, even if it didn’t always recognize her. May we remember her with the respect she always deserved. Rest in power.

Border Patrol shot two people in Portland earlier today and DHS wants you to believe this is “law enforcement.” Guess what? It’s not. It’s militarized abuse, zero accountability, and a federal agency that shoots first and lies later. This is what happens when power goes unchecked. Arrest them now.

ICE assaulted high school students. Let's repeat that--armed federal agents used force against unarmed teenagers who posed no threat. This is state-sponsored terrorism. The agents involved must be suspended and prosecuted. Congress must abolish ICE and hold Noem, Bovino, and others accountable.

After today's briefing, it's clear that J.D. Vance is compromised & his conduct raised questions about judgment and credibility. No one should be allowed to wield that much power without scrutiny. Congress has a duty to act & add him to Articles of Impeachment for his role in this administration.
