It’s a wrap for the #GameUXsummit ‘25! Thank you so much everyone and see y’all next year ☺️

Sometimes you may not know. So ask a consultant. Ask an expert what they know. (A recurring theme at the summit is: Find an expert, and ask them.)

1. Is this southern gothic? 2. Is this class struggle? 3. Is this esoteric talents? 4. Is this truth and hope? These are the pillars of the direction. If the feature or development isn't on at least 3 of these, it probably isn't something relevant enough to spend time on.

David talks about his growing up in the US south, and how that eventually led him to build South of Midnight.

'Sensitivity reading' is not about forcing DEI, censorship, judging, or woke/broke. It is about immersion, being memorable, avoiding backlash, and a virtuous cycle. It is about creating quality content. Like you would with historical projects.

Can you imagine making a movie about the French Revolution without a French historian? Or about northern mythology without an expert? An accessible website without including disabled people? Of course you would include an expert on the thing you are building. The same goes for culture.

This is already our last session at the #GameUXsummit… Our keynote speaker today is David Sears, creative director (most recently on South of Midnight) and writer. He takes us on a journey: “Life takes you to unexpected places, love brings you home”.

Now at the #GameUXsummit we listen to insights from Artem Ivanov & Dmitrii Sokolov (user researchers at Wargaming on the World of Warship franchise). They talk about “Making sense of player satisfaction: Why it matters and how to measure it”.

It’s Pecha Kucha time at the #GameUXsummit! Our first PK speaker, Maria Amirkhanyan (Head of Gaming Division at Duamentes) wasn’t sadly able to join us because of extremely frustrating visa issues. But she recorded her talk “Make me stay, don’t make me play” so that we can still hear her insights.

First session of the afternoon at the #GameUXsummit: Colleen Macklin and Ben Van Buren, coming all the way from New York City (Parsons School of Design)! They talk about “Perception in Virtual Worlds: Psychology and design students collaborate to study user experience in videogames”.

First an idea of Peace, and trying to achieve it. Understanding that peace does not mean quiet, passive, or an absence of conflict. Instead to see that conflict, and think 'build', to see it as an opportunity.

To be quite honest this year's #GameUXsummit is a relief. I've been in unemployment limbo, and expected that I would be very discouraged throughout the summit, but gathering with people and sharing struggles and learning new stuff? It's GREAT! I'm not ready to leave the industry yet.
