Concur! Parquet is great. We've been impressed using Parquet for other projects, including integrating results from many ion mobility experiments, where we need to track and index lots of metadata, and logging ion trajectory simulations, where we need compression, read speed, and durability.

The times we live in. The National Institute of Justice has taken down their webpages describing radiocarbon dating, which describes the use of carbon dating in forensics. I planned to link to in my Instrumental Analysis class.

NEW: NSF confirmed that they fired 168 employees today, out of their staff of ~1,500 feds. This includes some people who'd finished their 1-year probationary periods, which were extended to 2-years last month without explanation. More to come.

UW Chemistry just finished our open house for prospective PhD students, during which we hosted so many awesome people. A special thanks to current students, like AnneClaire Wageman and Addison Roush, for sharing their research and experiences.
