Over the weekend I gave a presentation @Saberseminar about my research on torpedo bats, based on computational modeling. Experimental results are expected soon. Non-trivial result: Width of sweet spot is potentially greater for torpedo. Slides: baseball.physics.illinois.edu/ppt/Nathan-T...

It was a good one. Our best yet by fundraising--we'll hit, or at least get close to, $75k total--and a ton of great talks. Happy to see everyone, happy to see a lot of students get interviews, and excited to continue growing next year.

Zack Borowiak with a great visual of "indirect" framing runs--showing how batters tend to swing more outside the zone against good framers. This value isn't captured by traditional framing models.

MLB parks are easier to hit in during the night, AAA parks are easier to hit in during the day. Hypothesis is that this stems from lighting quality.
