This isn’t about convicting Don Lemon. It’s unlikely that will happen. It’s about intimidating journalists & making them censure themselves out of fear of consequences. It’s about eroding the free press because the administration can’t afford the criticism.

It hasn’t gone unnoticed that all four people arrested today, including two journalists, were Black. And now we find out the charge is “conspiracy to violate civil rights,” a statute rooted in the Ku Klux Klan Act. Sit with that.

When I was a journalist in California, I covered the last protest against starting up Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. I was not harrassed by State Highway Patrol guarding entry to the plant, nor was I mistaken for a protestor, though I wandered among them asking questions for over two weeks.
