This is exciting: debut of opera Morgiane, ou Le Sultan D’Ispahan (1887) by American composer Edmond Dede (1827-1903). Apparently the earliest known opera by an African American composer - and not discovered until 2007.

#composer Emilie Mayer (1812-1883) also set "Der Erlkönig" to music twice! 1842 and again in 1870 for Wilhelm Tappert, who collected 35 settings of the "Erlkönig", with Mayer being the only woman, and discussed them in the Mus. Wochenblatt (shorturl.at/lzbVs) Schröter's version was not part of it.

Aus Gründen teile ich nochmal die Empfehlungen des Wissenschaftsrats zu Geschlechterforschung. Darin betont der WR die Relevanz von #GenderStudies & plädiert u.a. dafür, dass sie verlässliche institutionelle Strukturen erhalten. Wer das Gegenteil will, hat es auf Wissenschaft als Ganzes abgesehen.

In 1789, ice on the #Danube broke resulting in severe flooding. Maria Magdalena Kauth responded by composing and publishing ‘Das Gemälde der Natur’ to raise funds for the victims of Linz. Depicting a storm, the #melodrama commemorated the flood, victims, and rescuers.
