Preprint alert! 🧠 Using movie-watching fMRI and NLP, we show that prior social impressions shape how new social information is processed and updated over time, while moments of sudden insight ("aha"!) accompany transient shifts in brain activity that predict impression updates. (1/10)

A new framework reframes depression not as a disorder of negative thoughts but of cognitive flow. It proposes that depressed thinking is stuck, slow, and narrow, and treatments restoring the brain's ability to move fluidly between ideas may be key to recovery.

Anxiety and anhedonia may distort the brain's model of the world in opposite ways. Anxious people overestimate how rapidly threatening environments change, while anhedonic people underestimate change, potentially fueling hypervigilance and hopelessness respectively.
