My housemate just said that Lust For Life is ‘y’know, that song where Iggy Pop takes his top off’ and I’m just giggling at the idea it’s just one song where it’s his gimmick and then he puts his top back on and things go back to normal.

I feel like in the space of my lifetime brutalist architecture has gone from being a pleasure of a small minority and become a question where what you choose puts you in a defined camp and says something about you. The pro argument gets stronger as the crapper Brutalism goes and the great remains.

A guy came into the pub last night whose high paid job was in AI. He was exactly the hollow, soulless, right wing, passive aggressive, entitled prick you’ve already expected him to be when you started reading this.

Could I just have one day off, one good writing day, where my manager at my pub doesn’t post something weird and frustrating in the WhatsApp group? I sense this isn’t a niche quibble that only this writer has.

The Goddess of Braunston, discovered in 1920 when builders lifted up a stair and found the other side had a face. No one is certain of its historicity. Some argue it’s pre-Roman (and neo-pagans occasionally leave offerings before her), but no one is entirely sure. I just think she’s neat.

Enjoying The War Between The Land Snd Sea. The Aquas are fucking lucky they selected the right ordinary person to be the land’s ambassador though. The man’s middle aged, white and divorced. He could easily have started going on about vaccination conspiracies and cryptocurrency.

There’s a deep cosmic horror to Macbeth that I’m currently trying to process. He was doomed to kill Duncan even through he could have sat and waited, but he couldn’t because of his personality. Character defines fate, as the old Greek said, and that’s true, but it also means there’s no free will.

Anyone else noticed this trend of silent adverts on Youtube? They pop up when you're listening to music on YT or an audio story. The idea is, I think, to make you think there's something wrong with your wifi and thus you'll look at the screen. Maybe I'm paranoid but I'm sure that's the damn plan.

It’s taken decades and countless frustrations for me to accept I am a terrible judge of character. And you know what? I think we probably all are. Some deep and final vanity beyond looks and intellect gets in the way.

I noticed Epstein’s email address hadn’t been removed from the new releases and so, in one of my more tasteless and ill-advised moves, I tried sending an email for a laugh and was surprised it didn’t bounce. Sixteen hours later I got this reply and now I’m a bit creeped out.

Picked up a newspaper for my dad and it feels different nowadays, carrying a paper through town. A little old-fashioned but also a little aristocratic, like walking around with a riding crop. You feel a cut above the smartphone masses, almost as if you’re on a penny farthing.
