Speaking as a Brit it was nice to see the halftime Super Bowl, a side of America that I hadn’t seen in a while. Joyful and creative and, above all, kind.

Pennyblade has just had its hundredth review on Goodreads. A… divisive novel, I love to read the reviews, especially the one stars. Thank you to anyone who left a review or rating.

Got given a fancy baguette at work the other day so I made a mushrooms in creamy mustard thing to dip it in. It’s my basic response to any sudden baguette situation.

Am I the only one who thinks ale is a weird choice of alcohol for the Romulans? They just strike me as a wine drinking sort of culture. Ale drinkers are either vikings or folk music fans on wooly jumpers.

So I did a load of washing up at mum’s. She said: ‘Do you want the radio on?’ When I said yes she pointed to one corner ‘That radio is for Classic FM’, pointed at the other corner ‘Radio 4’ then at a *third* radio on the microwave ‘Radio Leicester’. What a set up! Never has to turn a dial!

How well and to what extent is the US army trained for cold environment warfare? Compared to Northern European armies? In an environment they can't bomb too much because they want to take its resources etc? Over a protracted time? I don't think it's clear cut at all.

Two programmes in a row on BBC 1 have pointed out that dragonflies are statistically the most effective predators in the world. Has anyone checked on the BBC boardroom? Is it just all these six-legged executives wearing torn and bloody suits?

The art deco style control room of Kelenfold power station, Budapest should have inspired a sci-fi movie by now. Constructed in 1929, the vast glass ceiling ensures a soft and non-tiring lighting for a high-stress job.

My housemate just said that Lust For Life is ‘y’know, that song where Iggy Pop takes his top off’ and I’m just giggling at the idea it’s just one song where it’s his gimmick and then he puts his top back on and things go back to normal.

I feel like in the space of my lifetime brutalist architecture has gone from being a pleasure of a small minority and become a question where what you choose puts you in a defined camp and says something about you. The pro argument gets stronger as the crapper Brutalism goes and the great remains.

Could I just have one day off, one good writing day, where my manager at my pub doesn’t post something weird and frustrating in the WhatsApp group? I sense this isn’t a niche quibble that only this writer has.
