Evil Woman by Electric Light Orchestra keeps playing at my pub and for ages I half thought it was Medieval Woman and it’s about some guy infatuated with Hilda of Bingen or someone. Ruined it when someone told me the real title.

Today on the website, for those who’ve read Children of Strife - bonus content. A whole extra chapter that didn’t quite make it into the finished book, essentially a self-contained short story.

Got me a new foldable keyboard for when I want to type on my phone. I picked this colour because it gives it a late 70s/ early 80s vibes. Nice and durable-feeling and I can slip it in a coat pocket.

I would argue that the ticket is something of a pre-approved invitation, as long as it's valid for that train in question. Though that begs the question what would happen if they missed the train and their ticket wasn't transferable to the next one headed to their destination?

There's a lot of talent here but any version of Possession needs more than talent, it needs mania and anguish. The 1981 version came out of a unique set of circumstances that can't- and shouldn't- be conjured up. On the bright side maybe my local indie cinema will show the original. Hope so.

Related to the overnight conversation about the Hugo novellas... For my money the Hugos, in general, have been trying to be two different things for a long time now. 1/ a Best in field voted by experts and 2/ a popular award voted by a community. Can it really be both?

50 years to the day since Sid James bowed out. The Carry On movies were basically the Marvel Avengers of post war British comedy acting. Sid was its Tony Stark, though god knows what he’d get up to with the Iron Man suit…

This coffee table beauty arrived in the post. I’ve long had this weird gut feeling that, if I learn about John Lautner’s philosophy with architecture it’ll make me a better novelist. I can’t explain it. But I’ve put my money where my instincts are and got the definitive guide to his houses.

Saw Sammie again today. I only know them from the scar on their back and their eagerness/foolhardiness and they only know me from my black coat and use of the rowing machine (if I’m lacking either Sammie don’t approach). Top pals.

One of our pub regulars found a pigeon with a bad leg and now he’s nursing them back to health. Apparently their talon grip has improved a whole lot since yesterday. He’s called them Al Pidgeno.

One of our pub’s semi-regulars told me about going to France to be a chef. He went into one restaurant and the owner said: “The English can’t cook.” Fella replied: “Yeah? What about Joan of Arc?” Owner gave him the job.
