6. Planet of The Apes (2001) Controversially I have placed this much higher up the chart than original reviewers did, so bear with me. In the novel written by Pierre Boulle the story takes place not on Earth as the original movie place it but on an extraterrestrial planet in the future. Tim Burton

7. Escape From The Planet Of The Apes. Lighter in tone…….initially, opens with Cornelius, Zira and Milo escaping in Taylor’s repaired spaceship landing on a then (1973) Earth. Shock from the humans on discovering talking apes shifts to curiosity leading to a comical shopping trip from our heroes.

8. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972) This starts promisingly enough with Ricardo Montalban escorting Caesar(Roddy McDowell) incognito through a 1970’s metropolis desperately hiding the fact that he is descended from talking apes from the future.

11. Battle For The Planet of The Apes. There’s cheap….Then there’s cheap. This movie, the last in the original run, suffers from a miniscule budget where the ape costumes were so worn that you could see the actors faces through the eyeholes due to material fatigue.
