Sometimes it feels like everything in the world is sliding backward, and it gets overwhelming. And then I think about the art community—the people making and sharing work, supporting each other, keeping creativity alive. I’m just really grateful to be here with all of you.

I will always remember that 89 million Americans, or about 36% of the country’s voting-eligible population, did not vote in the 2024 general election.

Photo of an artist's photo-reference morgue. A really nice one. Before the Magic Electric Internet, artists & cartoonists had to create their own Google Images, by clipping photos out of magazines and filing them according to topic. I had a morgue until the mid-1990s. Not as good as this one.

For a boardgame by Board&Dice I was asked to imagine religious ceremonies in ancient Minoan culture. Ritual leaping over bulls is a common motif there. And yes, this was exactly as challenging to draw as it looks! I looked at SO many pictures of gymnasts to figure out the jumper's pose. 😅

Grinder Oil on cradled panel 12x9 I always wanted to make a series of paintings related to coffee but I never got to do it. Until now. I will be exhibiting some of my works at Northside Social in Arlington VA and I decided to do a series of coffee related works. This is one of them.

Talent isn't rare. Throw an apple & you hit someone with talent. Perseverance? rare. Work ethic? exceedingly rare; the willingness to grind. Being able to endure the scorn, rejection & privation a life in the arts dooms you to in the United States is unicorn-scarce. But talent? Talent is everywhere.

ADHD is when you have to “pay attention” but you can’t “pay,” because you’re broke. But, on the plus side, you have a million dollars in gift cards to the one thing you feel like doing.

the only reason that everyone isn't an artist is because of all those thousands of hours spent drawing, painting, etc, trying to improve - I've always believed that anyone can become good at it, provided they put in the hours - the real "natural talent" is the perservence, not the skills

I left little critiques on lots of game trailers so here's a thread with the most common issues (and additional reading) 🧵 1. Don't put logos at the start. It's just dead air that could be gameplay, which is 100000000X more interesting.
