The thing about ICE and DHS is that I was 28 or 29 when they were created. I remember people arguing that they would become an authoritarian tool specifically designed to terrorize Americans. They knew.

I put the black tweed pullover aside long enough to crank out one of the red hats, with a gorgeous skein of hand-dyed yarn from my last Rhinebeck in 2024. Not crossing the border anytime soon so I don’t know when I’ll see the Hudson Valley (my childhood home) again.

Staff at a Twin Cities yarn store put together a pattern for a red knit “Melt the ICE” hat inspired by the Norwegian resistance. They thought they would attract 10 people to a weekly knit-along. They’ve sold 70,000 copies, raising more than $250k for immigrant aid groups.

As others have aptly pointed out, police forces have been murdering people for a long time, especially POC. This terrorism from ICE is only a continuation and newest version of what we have been seeing for a long time.

All the anti-war and anti-occupation protestors were right. All the far leftists were right. All the “woke scolds” and your friend who’s “too woke” were right. They were somehow even more right than they may have realized at the time. But really, it was always obvious they were right.

At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.

Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him. White. Hot. Rage.

I'm sorry for the person who was beat to death and killed. My sincere condolences to their loved ones. ICE is going to continue to kill people because the purpose of a system is what it does. It is not what it says it does or what you hope it does. Maybe USians will finally confront this truth.

Currently working my way through the Open University's "Understanding Autism" course. The more I learn about neurodivergence, the more my entire life makes sense.
