A man struggling with addiction brought a woman to Blanchet House after finding her lost and confused. Our staff spent hours with agencies and missing persons reports before learning she had a home, but forgot where it was. She's now home. Blanchet is more than meals. We're a hub for people in need.

Juan, who’s staying with us at Blanchet House, took 5th place out of 400 people, at the recent Go The Distance (GTD) event! GTD helps people in addiction recovery incorporate physical activity into their lives, gives them a support network, and helps build self-esteem one run at a time. Go, Juan!

Good news! The city opened public bathrooms only two blocks away from Blanchet House. We took a tour of the new city-run Oasis, set up for people experiencing homelessness, and we’re impressed. The restroom stalls have a shower and toilet that are cleaned after every use.

Four people are heading home to Tennessee, Iowa, Texas, and Washington thanks to Erik, a Blanchet House peer support specialist, who connected them with a city-funded program promoted by Mayor Wilson offering free bus tickets. Many came to Portland for help but found services hard to access.

Since January, “G,” who is experiencing homelessness, has been walking only in socks because he couldn’t find size 17 shoes. When staff gently asked if he needed shoes, he explained his situation. A volunteer purchased a pair just for him, and G was overcome with emotion when we handed them over.

We’re open today! Breakfast 6-7, Lunch 11:30-12:30, and Dinner 5-6. Thanks to everyone who’s volunteering and working today to keep the cafe open for our guests.

We handed out 322 sack lunches to people who needed food to take with them. Sack lunches are generously donated and lovingly decorated by volunteers. Thank you to everyone who makes this possible.

We caught our amazing staffer Ava comforting a guest who was overheated. This is the real work of ending homelessness—meeting people where they are, with compassion and dignity. Blanchet House is more than free meals. It’s human connection in a world that too often looks away.

John got an apartment! He was staying at Blanchet House, where our transitional program offers men a stable place to live while they address challenges. Without housing, it’s nearly impossible to get a job, find an apartment, access medical care, apply for disability, or find lasting sobriety.

At Blanchet Farm, every chore is a chance to grow. Our woods needed thinning, so instead of hiring it out, residents learned how to safely fell trees in a clinic led by arborist Karlek Janislampi of Green Green Trees. By teaching new skills, we empower men in recovery to rebuild confidence.

Charitie, a peer support specialist, sat with a man in our cafe who was released from the hospital and in pain. Staff like Charitie take the time to get to know people and the challenges keeping them from stable housing. Blanchet House employs Charitie to connect people to help and end homelessness.

When Ronnie mentioned he was craving tuna casserole, Chef Antoine made it happen for dinner tonight. At Blanchet House, we aim to make our guests feel cared for and sometimes, that starts with a favorite meal.

We have a misting tent up and cold water at the exit door. Stop by Blanchet House for a good meal and a break from the heat. We will also refill water bottles. Unfortunately, our ice machine broke so we are waiting for a repair person.

A guest brought us this balloon turtle, saying he’d been thinking about how he moves through life slowly like a turtle and how we meet him at his own speed in the café. Ava and Liz have been having fun playing with it. Sometimes, it’s the little moments that mean the most.

Our beloved pig, Oscar, left us peacefully, surrounded by people who loved him. Oscar was more than just a farm animal; he was a healer. He helped countless men find joy, laughter, and unconditional love in their recovery journeys. Oscar’s impact will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

A guest said they’d never been to a place like Blanchet House, where someone bussed their plate. “It feels more like a real restaurant.” Another added, “They try hard and do a good job.” Coming from them, it felt like a Michelin star. “They don’t know what a big gift they gave us!”
