@randomfacts.bsky.social One of my grandsnakes, a six foot long red tailed rescue boa named Ciri, has passed on. I'm trying to encourage my kids to remember that she was living in an abandoned house, burnt by heating elements, and her quality of life after she was rescued was much better.

Here is what we have venomous: Cotton Mouth, Eastern Diamondback Copperhead, Timber rattler, Pigmy rattler, Coral Snake I've only seen the Copperhead, Cotton Mouth and Timber Rattler. The rattlesnake I ran over with my motorcycle accidently. The other two are common because I live close to water

That's interesting! I found out this summer that #bumblebees live in Las, Vegas, Nevada. I planted zinnias and morning glories and something about that combo attracted LOTS of hummingbirds and bumblebees. The ones here are furry and slow-moving and much larger and mellower than honey #bees.

One would THINK that on a practically dead website with a slow reptile feed that is only updated every few days, that users would welcome an active user with lots of knowledge and a large photo collection...For preaching so much inclusivity, Bluesky isn't a very friendly website overall.

Fun facts: Statistically, American politicians are WAY more deadly than American snakes. Most people bitten by American vipers will survive with prompt medical care. Of the 5000 or so Americans bitten by snakes each year, only about 5 pass away on average. Most vipers are NOT highly venomous.

My adored Allosaurus. USNM 4734 is the neotype for Allosaurus fragilis, or the fossil that essentially defines the anatomy of the species for comparisons. A real rock star. 🧪
