Students from the poorest backgrounds were more likely to be successful by applying to gateway courses, such as those that have a foundation year with lower grade requirements for entry. But these courses are still not as accessible as they should be for those from the poorest backgrounds.

I have some really great students who are so very kind and thoughtful. One of my #FoundationYear students made me a personalised Xmas card as I've been one of her #Biology lecturers, helped her settle her in to the course, and because I always wear cool biology shirts. I absolutely LOVE it!! 😍🎄😍🎅😍
