Long-term-closed, The Tennyson Arms in Scarborough has struggled in the last five years to find a sustainable re-use after it was once a well-used pub with rooms in the holiday resort. It is again being offered for sale & it deserves to have a safe future.

This morning on Adderstone Rigg in Dalby Forest, where there are works of art; one by Piers Edsall, 'Ancestors (2023)', is a distorted figure in decaying fabrics depicting 'a grim prophesy of a dystopian future'.

Boxing Day at All Saints', Thornton-le-Dale, first built early C14 in a Gothic architecture style. In the churchyard, the grave of local man Matthew Grimes (1779-1865) - as a soldier, he guarded Napoleon in exile on Saint Helena & was a pall bearer at his death there in 1821.

Built 1742, Yew Court in Scalby, near Scarborough, has been unaltered since it was extended in 1895 - it was painted by Atkinson Grimshaw in 1870. A Building of Townscape Merit in the Scalby Conservation Area, it is now about to be saved as prestige visitor accommodation for the close-by Plough Inn.

Of interest among #Scarborough churches, the grade II RC Church of St Peter, built 1858 to designs of #York-born #architect Geo. Goldie (1828-87). Un-orientated, with windowless polygonal apse, described by architectural historian Charles Eastlake as the first church to have this feature.

In Dalby Forest, the 2025 Earth Photo exhibition - the shortlist by lens artists capturing images of a struggling earth. Winning image, 'Autophagy' by Lorenzo Poli, is an aerial view of a mine in Chile, capturing the disturbing enormity of copper extraction there. Exhibition is on until 20 Feb.

These apartments at Captain's View in Scarborough, designed by Andrew Doughty Architectural Design, mark a turning point in the appearance of new developments in the seaside town, with its ocean liner vibe. The developer was a local firm, Thompson Homes.

Former Capitol Cinema in #Scarborough was built 1928-9. Architects: Gray & Evans of Liverpool (designers of 15 cinemas across north of England, all now closed & 8 demolished). Partly converted to bingo 1967-8 (arch: Eric Neve & Assoc) & since 1977 wholly bingo. Listed grade II in 2000 & now closed.

One of the brutalist buildings in the centre of Scarborough is this 1970s multi-storey car park that was built used the lift-slab construction method, when floor slabs were cast on the ground & mechanically raised.

Opposite Peasholm Park gardens in Scarborough, is a history going as far back as C17, when a coaching inn had existed. Redeveloped in early C18 with two cottages & a manor house, + others built since, a fine collection of buildings in the north side of the resort.

High Mill, beside the River Derwent at West Ayton, Scarborough, is dated circa 1800. It bears the arms of the Hewley family who had a significant historical connection to West Ayton, primarily through Sir John Hewley & his wife Dame Sarah Hewley, who acquired most of the manor in the 17th century.

Opened in 1932 as a feature of the Northstead Manor Gardens & grade II listed in 2017, the ride is owned & operated by North Bay Railway with Peasholm station close by.

One of the holiday apartments in the diminutive Lighthouse Cottage in Scarborough's Queen's Terrace is named after The Flatiron Building on Fifth Avenue in New York - significant for its unusual triangular street-corner appearance that both buildings have.

St Matthew's, a 12th-century Grade I listed church, has one of the region's largest churchyards, as it serves as the parish church for both Hutton Buscel and West Ayton - villages on the outskirts of Scarborough, at the eastern end of the Vale of Pickering.

Grade I listed St Matthew's, Hutton Buscel, has a north aisle (pictured) that was rebuilt during restoration work in 1855 by William Butterfield. In the churchyard is a medieval cross, grade II.

Peasholm Park in Scarborough is a public park first laid out in 1912, with a Japanese theme. It is a grade II listed Park & Garden - voted one of the most favourite in Europe.
