On Jan 6, I’m only aware of one in-person counter-demonstration held in DC that day against the Trump rally: a group of interfaith clergy who stood in a circle and prayed. They were harassed by Trump supporters. They’ve gathered every year since, and met again today. They mentioned Herod a lot.

At the attack on the Capitol five years ago, we saw the violent implications of Christian nationalism on full display. Praying in the Senate chamber, photos of a MAGA hat wearing Jesus held high, street vendors selling Bibles. There was Christian symbolism all around, but Jan 6 was not of Christ.
