ABBEYSIDE BEACH During the Famine in April 1847 a crowd of labourers called to Fr. Halley's house in Bridge Street, Dungarvan appealing for work. He asked them not to resort to violence. The next day he arranged for 400 men to be employed picking stones at Abbeyside beach at one shilling a day.
