Saturday evening update with a big change in our weather to come, thankfully less rain but colder. Watch video for latest.

11am Saturday and rain continues in parts of East and midlands. Video taken just now at Powerscourt waterfall shows the volume of rain coming down off the Wicklow Mountains with a lot of reports of flooding coming in.

Rain to rainbows here in Tullow on Saturday morning after over 100mm of rain in parts of Wicklow. Colder and dryer weather on the way but take travelling today.

7am and Holyhead had reopened in last hour and the two Irish ferries have docked. The rain continues but is breaking up, 102.8mm has fallen near Roundwood in Wicklow and river levels are very high in East with River Owenavoragh in Wexford near its all time record high from 1986.

Flooding reported in Bridgetown Wexford tonight also. Well done to firefighters who responded. As always during flood event it’s the firefighters that come to the rescue.

4am Saturday and rain breaking up but still falling with over 100mm now recorded at weather station near Roundwood in Wicklow and still gusting to 80kmh at Dublin Airport. The two ferries waiting to dock at Holyhead since this afternoon are still waiting.

In some good news the river level in Portarlington has now leveled off and no longer rising but remains at very high level.

Winds still gusting to up to 90kmh near Holyhead and latest update from passengers is that it will be at least 4am before Holyhead port opens again. A long night ahead for those on ferries.

Follower reports: “We are on the Stena Adventerer, left Dublin at 10:15 this morning very rough crossing and Holyhead Port closed so we have been holding in Treaddur Bay off the Island of Anglesey 5 miles from Holyhead for 7 hours now, thankfully not too choppy but no idea when we can dock yet”

Over 60mm recorded now near Roundwood in Wicklow and still 12 hours of rain to come!

This is why you should not eat nuts on a plane. A friends child went into anaphylaxis because of it.

I’ve received a few messages from people on a ferry that was due to dock in Holyhead but is unable to dock at present due to wind and it could be a while before wind eases. If you are due to travel on a ferry then check updates.

The amount of rainfall will vary a lot even in counties under Orange warning so for example parts of North Dublin forecast to see less than 20mm while South Dublin high ground could see over 60mm. Same for parts of Wexford and Wicklow.

3pm Friday brief update

The rain shadows from mountains are clear to see which thankfully means less rain for areas West of mountains but huge volume of rainfall to fall on mountains and Eastern side.

Rain continues and private weather station near Roundwood in Wicklow already up to 22mm since midnight. A lot more rain to come!

Met Éireann have updated the timing for today’s rainfall warnings.

The rain has arrived and a wet and windy 24 hours ahead. Latest rainfall totals forecast are a little lower for parts of South but still very high in East and Southeast and flooding sadly is likely.

An updated flood advisory from Met Éireann with Kilkenny included now. A lot of followers reporting flooding of land before the heavy rain to come. Again I am sharing this as I believe it is in the public interest to show the flood risk as per Met Éireann flood forecast team.

I have obtained a copy of the Flood Advisory issued by Met Éireann to local authorities today showing an orange level flood risk for many parts of East and South. I cannot see why it is not made public as I believe it is in the public interest to share it so I am sharing it.

Met Éireann have now issued weather warnings for tomorrow with yellow wind warnings. Wind warning for Dublin, Louth, Wexford and Wicklow. I’d expect rainfall warnings also.

There is still an issue it seems with the Met Éireann forecast on app and site, it isn’t showing high resolution HAMRONIE data in the forecast as shown here for rainfall in Wicklow tomorrow but their maps do show the correct data. Significant rain tomorrow in East.

Rain clearing North after 39.9mm in Killarney and while many areas saw less than 25mm the impact was high, flooding reporting in many areas. Sadly over 60mm of rain is forecast Friday into Saturday in parts of East with over 100mm on Wicklow mountains with more flooding likely.

The blue smarties are back with a big change in our weather next week as cooler air is set to move in.

4:30pm Wednesday intense rain continues in Southwest and slowly moving up the country. While Kerry is not in the warning area it is likely to see local flooding. The Met Éireann app and website seems to have an issue with today’s forecast where it is not showing the heavy rain.

The rain has returned and over 10mm in Southern parts over next 6 hours. Falling on saturated land and already flooded low areas.

Another yellow warning for Cork today and risk of more warnings for Friday. The flooding risk continues so be alert if you are in an area prone to flooding as rivers are high and land saturated.

More rain moving up later this afternoon with a wet evening and over 10mm for much of Southern half of country and over 20mm possible in few spots. More heavy rain to come on Friday also.

What a night!

If you happen to be awake there is a good chance of seeing some Northern Lights soon as CME has hit and stats look good along with clear skies for many. Posted 00:40 Wednesday.

Thankfully the rain has cleared most areas now and some nice clear spells tonight before cloud moves up from the South tonight and more rain pushing up South after lunch with some heavy bursts for Wednesday afternoon.

The risk of heavy rainfall in the East on Friday and Friday night needs careful watching with UK Met Office model showing over 100mm possible on Wicklow Mountains. Other models have less but still significant amounts.

Heavy rain clearing Southwest now with brighter weather pushing in but heavy rain will continue for many areas until this evening with more local flooding.

For those lucky enough to be heading to Lapland the snow has arrived and more to come over the next week.

A wet morning after heavy rain overnight with up to 25mm in Southern areas and more heavy rain to come today before it slowly clears North this evening.

Storm #Claudia has been named by the Spanish Met Service and will cause very intense rains and winds in the Canary Islands. It will also affect the western peninsula of Spain and Portugal. A lot of rain with risk of flooding in Portugal.

Here comes the rain again…

More rain tonight, moving up from the South this evening but clearing most areas Monday morning and sunny spells and odd shower for Monday before heavy rain moves up again Monday night.

Airmass temperate anomaly shows much of Europe going from warmer than average to colder than average over the next 10 days.

Heavy rain returns though tomorrow night into Tuesday with latest high resolution weather model charts showing over 50mm for parts of the South by 3pm Tuesday.

Rain clearing this morning with good sunny spells following. A nice Sunday ahead for most.

The GFS 6z was a cool looking run but ensembles show it was was on the bottom of the members so a LOT of possible outcomes for after the 15th yet. I’m sure some will share charts from it without context.

More heavy rain expected Monday night and Tuesday with risk of spot flooding, especially in South. One to keep an eye on.
