Sunday evening update as we finally start to see a change to some warmer air in the forecast but some rain to come first.

Air temperatures for first half of May have been well below normal for Ireland but soil temperatures are still above normal. Rainfall amounts up to yesterday have been below normal too with soil moisture deficit of up to 53mm in East.

Some lightning strikes now with thunderstorms and more widespread showers pushing in from West. 4pm Sunday.

Much of Europe will go from well below average temperature to well above in the coming few days.

Showers are kicking off already and moving East across the country with some thunderstorms possible along with hail and local downpours.

A nice Friday morning in parts of East and South with early hazy sunshine after a low of 2c overnight. Cloud will increase in South and some showers kicking off this afternoon with risk of local downpours.

Friday will see a lot of cloud and some scattered showers but many areas staying dry. Saturday will be a good sunny day for most and dry for all. Sunday will see best of sunny spells in Southeast with only small chance of a shower.

Still no sign of any real warm air coming our way up to mid month but rainfall amounts look generally low for Ireland for next 7 days.

Update for weekend which is looking pretty good now. Saturday and Sunday both looking mainly dry with sunny spells. Breezy and feeling cool with windchill of around 10c or below for many parts. Hopefully that rain to South will hold off and a fine weekend for all those with events on.
