Emerging Faces has come to be seen as one of the first instances of painting autonomously created by a robotic system, but this has never satisfied me because we don't know what autonomy means. Perhaps art is always approaching a recursive horizon of emergence, always embodying this threshold.

A robot was given simple yet profound instructions: 1: Try to imagine a face and paint it on a canvas. 2: Stop painting the moment a face is detected.
