If the government shuts down military troops will not get paid. Moms, kids, & seniors will lose access to programs that help buy food. For what? Because Donald Trump & Elon Musk would rather families suffer during the holidays than govern. Terrible.

The Constitution empowers Congress, not the president, to determine trade policy. Misusing tariffs can wreak havoc on our economy and raise costs for Americans. My opening remarks in today’s @jecdems.bsky.social hearing on president-elect Trump’s vow to implement massive tariff increases:

Trump’s mass deportations plans would cause irreparable harm to the economy. - Reduce GDP as much as 7.4% - Remove 1.5 MILLION construction workers - Spike prices up to 9.1% higher  His immigration policy is reckless.

The only “winners” of a trade war are Trump’s rich buddies who exchange political favors for protection from tariffs that you end up having to pay.

BREAKING: The economy added 227,000 jobs in November! Trump & Republicans love to rewrite history. Here are the facts: Trump was the 1st President since WWII to leave office with fewer jobs than when his admin started. His disastrous policies will hurt our economy once again.

China will not pay for Trump’s tariffs. Mexico will not pay for Trump’s tariffs. Canada will not pay for Trump’s tariffs. YOU will. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.

We don’t know who needs to hear this but tax cuts for the rich don’t grow our economy. Investing in childcare grows our economy. Raising wages for workers grows our economy. Expanding access to affordable health care grows our economy. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Trump and Republicans led people to believe that their policies will lower costs. Make no mistake: imposing new tariffs, mass deportations, & politicizing the Federal Reserve will lead to skyrocketing prices. That’s only a sample of the inflationary policies in Project 2025.

Explain how Medicare and Social Security are “handouts”, but Trump’s $4.6 trillion tax cut for the rich is “economic stimulus”
