The Government has officially recognised the State of Palestine, a long-overdue step and a manifesto commitment delivered. While this will not immediately end the man-made humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, it is an important step toward a two-state solution, peace, and an end to the occupation.

Today is a momentous step towards justice. The Hillsborough Law has finally been laid in Parliament. This must not be another false start. I asked the Deputy PM to promise me it will be THE Hillsborough Law, that it will emerge from Parliament stronger - NOT weaker - and finally deliver

Nick Davies’ book Hack Attack is out today. It reveals Murdoch’s cover-up: millions of emails deleted - essential evidence of phone hacking. I raised the issue of the two-tier justice system in Parliament, where oligarchs act with impunity, dodge scrutiny, and show contempt for the law.

Three years ago, 9-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel was tragically taken from her family. Today I’m thinking of Olivia, and of her incredible mum Cheryl, whose courage in campaigning for Olivia’s Law is inspiring. I'm proud to stand with Cheryl and her family. Rest in peace Liv 💜🦋

VJ Day marked the end of the Second World War. In Huyton, we welcomed home Far East Prisoners of War, giving them rest after years of captivity before they returned to their families. We honour their courage and remember those who never came home. Lest we forget.

Across Knowsley young people care about the world they live in - they’re old enough to pay tax or join the army, but they can’t vote on things that impact them every day. I’m made up with today’s announcement that 16-17 year olds will get the right to vote.

After winning major concessions from the government, the UC and PIP bill delivers an uprated UC, increased employment support, and scraps pointless reassessments for those with lifelong conditions. No one will lose a penny of PIP, and future changes will be co-produced with disabled groups.
