I love how this islet is just becoming Donkey Kong’s repository of trauma and bad memories. Nothing like a haunted house full of waxworks in the images of the bullies and tyrants who made your life miserable.

As 2025 draws to a close and we reflect on the year in the Donkey Kong Universe, I think this screenshot would be the MOST surreal to me in December 2024. Fan service doesn’t make a game good, but a great game that goes out of its way to include it feels special.

Legendary Rare designer Gregg Mayles has posted the full Stop 'N' Swop document for Banjo-Tooie! This includes plans for Donkey Kong as a playable character in Banjo-Tooie's multiplayer, how the Ice Key would be passed from Banjo-Kazooie to Donkey Kong 64 to Tooie (and beyond!), and much, much more.

There's a heavy and persistent snowfall outside my window, and like every single time I've glanced at one over the last 31 years, this is what immediately comes to mind.

#DonkeyKongBananza is peak monumental in gaming, and united the fanbase together behind such a legendary defining installment in the series. DK is back, we are back. There has never been a better time to be a #DonkeyKong fan. 🦧🐒❤️🎈🍌

Why doesn’t Donkey Kong swim underwater in Bananza when he easily does it Donkey Kong 64 and most Country games? It’s a very small detail, but it’s communicated in animation when he briefly dips beneath the water: Pauline frantically holds her nose. She can’t swim, and DK doesn’t want to drown her!

Every single decision in this game is so well-considered, and all game mechanics have a justification in the universe of the game. It’s still staggering to me how much Nintendo EPD stuck the landing.
