Having come so close, now what for Arsenal? The problem is obvious: they need best of the best attackers. Could Kroupi and Rogers, both targets, be the players to push Arsenal to “another level”?

Watched Arteta's press conference back. In a deeply emotional state, it's really impressive how he finds the space between ambitious and compassionate. In one breath he's saying one million thanks wouldn't be enough for his squad, the next vowing to be "very, very ambitious".

One of the many impressive things that Luis Enrique has done for PSG is seen Ligue 1 for what it is. In 21-22 Mbappe played 3000 minutes across 35 games. Dembele has fewer Ligue 1 minutes in the last two seasons combined. Neymar and Messi too played more than any starting PSG attacker currently.

To the last Arsenal were themselves. And they were brilliant. The goal here is not to enrapture neutrals but to win football matches. They came so close to the perfect defensive game. It would have been a worthy way to win.

Arsenal fall one moment short of the defensive perfection that would have won them the Champions League
The Gunners came as close as you can to winning their first UCL, falling in penalty kicks to PSG on Saturday

There were only two games this season where PSG had fewer non-penalty expected goals through 90 minutes than today. Arsenal came so close to a perfect defensive game. That is going to hurt.

Gabriel's a man who steps up for the big moments, who relishes pressure. He strikes a ball pretty well too. Plenty of defenders score penalties, including Beraldo and Hakimi. Let's not go down the nonsense route of why didn't x player take it.

If there was anyone who didn't deserve that it was Gabriel. Six years of putting his body on the line for Arsenal, of growing with this team. A wonderful footballer who was at his brilliant best tonight. I know he'll feel the love from this team but he deserves joy.

FT Arsenal 1, PSG 1 - What about if they hadn't given away that penalty? Maybe perfection was too much for Arsenal to ask of themselves. But they were so close to it before Mosquera got in a tangle.

24 of David Raya's 26 passes have gone long. Understand the logic to that against PSG but Arsenal need to kick their habit of hoofing and hoping Havertz does something.

Spaces are just starting to build for PSG. Arsenal looking a bit tired, a second late to the duels they were hitting hard in the first half.

HT PSG 0, Arsenal 1 - The Gunners are pretty miffed at not being given a chance to take their corner. Still what a sensational first half that has been. Chasing the game, PSG have had to settle for six shots, none of them very good. Gabriel, Hincapie and especially Mosquera have been brilliant.

Through the first 17 minutes Arsenal had 19% possession. Given the context I wouldn't expect this to be 50:50 and Arsenal are doing such a good job of making PSG's 81% disrupted and fiddly. Just maybe another 15% of the ball might help to give them a breather.

Havertz is often (but not exclusively) sitting on Vitinha out of possession. PSG just pushed him very high just to try to gum up Arsenal's defensive shape. It made a weird thing happen but not sure you'd want Vitinha there.

That finish, I mean oh my lord that was something special. But the way Havertz killed a looping Rice half clearance dead with his first touch earlier in that move turned what might have been a PSG chance into the chance to do something unforgettable.

I'd have started Calafiori and think it's a mistake not to. His defensive qualities tend to go underappreciated because of how good he is going forward. However given the likely changes Arteta will make in attack it's not the end of the world to have Calafiori's possession skills late.

No great surprise given that Arteta confirmed yesterday he was fit to start but Jurrien Timber has arrived with the Arsenal squad. Noni Madueke also here. Marli Salmon and Max Dowman with the group too.

Every Arsenal player has an injury story and all of those stories seem to have one shared touch point. They all feel as much a part of the team when sidelined as when playing. That’s not normal. As Martin Odegaard said last night, this is a family.

Twice now my walk down the Tottenham High Road had been interrupted by the chants of Arsenal fans having some fun at Spurs’ expense. A lone voice cries “come on PSG” in reply. I don’t think there’s much that could happen Saturday to quieten Arsenal fans.
