I grew up in the 1950/60s near Roebuck House, hearing stories of Despard, who was a titan. Coincidentally, I now live near Vauxhall in London, where she was a poor law guardian 1894-1903. Equally coincidentally, today I was in the Women's Library at the LSE, which holds her diary of the Russian trip
