I’m at a crossroads. A lot of the obligations that took up most of my time are phasing out of my life being replaced by a normal time-eating job. 2020 and 2025 shook a lot of my core belief systems and I never fully recovered. I have no idea what I’m supposed to want for myself beyond surviving.

I miss stuff like this; where fidelity was so low that games were by necessity less literal about what they represented and could render the same city in multiple ways. I remember spending a lot of time daydreaming about what my SimCity 2000 cities would 'really' be like beyond the pixels.

I could really use the Analogue Pocket that I have still in the box right now but the thought of having to keep track of one more rechargeable lithium ion battery fills me with revulsion.

Hey, you should read Bakuman! The female characters are written terribly, the romance that ostensibly lies at the core of the story doesn’t work, none of the couples have any chemistry with each other, and it whitewashes the manga industry. But it’s still a very important story to me, somehow.

People over on Twitter are shitting on Bakuman and while I have long agreed it is misogynistic and has several other flaws, I just like it. I am such a sucker for stories about artistic friends getting fired up and passionate about art and storytelling.

And I still would have bought FireRed and LeafGreen on their own– separately– on physical carts at $20 per game, I’m that desperate. But they couldn’t even do that.

Every time I talk to someone about FF7 Remake, I try and explain that there is no way to translate a blocky abstract scene into hyperrealism that will satisfy every individual’s interpretation of that blocky abstract scene. And every time they reply “Ok but my interpretation is correct though.”

I have no problem with the character redesigns in Final Fantasy VII Remake, I have been very vocal about liking that the game is its own thing and not trying to replace the original. But I wish fanartists hadn’t completely stopped drawing the old designs.

I pretty much hate most remakes but sometimes I want to play a remake of a game I love just to have an excuse to play the game again. But then I just wish I was playing the original anyway.
