While defending the luddite argument in Discord, I stumbled into this IMO succinct explanation for opposing generative AI: At every step in the process, it impoverishes us.

AI models stole writing and art without permission, pay, or credit, and when creators demanded removal or pay, the AI industry said no. Everyone knows this. Literally everyone. "Wehhhh but I still wanna defend and use it" yeah what else do you go ahead and do without permission.

People who use generative AI don't respect boundaries and don't seek consent. You can and should view generative AI use as a red flag in a person's behaviour, and call out / shun appropriately.
