Was excited Lawrence County, Missouri released a boatload of newspapers, and my great-grandparents and their family are filled with them. HOWEVER. Despite having newspapers for then, still NO MENTION of their marriage. I'm becoming convinced they forgot to do paperwork even in 1927. #genealogy

Realizing two of my ancestors were right next door to each other on the 1830 census... But their descendants don't marry each other until about 1875... And most of the family of 1 moved away so no other overlap I've found. Fun little #genealogy surprises lol

Watching "finding your roots" is convincing me that #genealogy storytelling can be one of the best uses of connecting us to history and to each other. We all have ancestors who at some point were on the right side and others who were on the wrong side of history. And they were all humans.

One of my odder #genealogy finds was my Czech Horak ancestors in 1880. They had just moved to Jewell County, Kansas that year. It lists their surname as Hork (transcription was Hock), and says they're from France! I found them by going page by page, looking for bigger families and immigrants.

I like giving my legal name to people I'm not sure about so that if they try to use my name to show people they know me, they look the fool. Lmao.

DNA matches are wonderful clues for #genealogy siblings lost to time. If I could do it again, I doubt I'd willingly send my DNA in to a company... but here we are. There's a lot of questions I'd never have answers to without it. Other times, it can lead you into the direction of a paper trail!

I love how many #genealogy discoveries I've made of my Irish ancestors once someone in Facebook group found a marriage record of my ancestors in Warrington, Lancaster in 1849. The bride's parents also had a child that same timeframe in Warrington before they all left to the US in staggered groups.

A second cousin of my visited my surname homelands (his mother's side) and sent me some photos. He didn't hire a translator, so there were some communication challenges, but the person he attempted to talk with recognized our family name and confirmed the house. So amazing. #genealogy

One reason I argue that stuttering ought to be claimed as the disability it is, is due to its power to interrupt a system meant to marginalize certain groups of people. The power of interruption, and what it exposes, cannot be overstated.

Sometimes when using a text search, "Gooding" in quotes also shows results for "good". There seems to be nothing anyone can do about it, even when exact search is used. It's only some programs, but it's a bummer to not be able to search, for example, Library of Congress newspapers. #genealogy
