I woke up this morning remembering I’m headed home to Liverpool for the weekend and all I can think about is eating chips and gravy by Anthony Gormley’s iron men on Crosby beach.

I’ve just lost about 15 minutes with my head on my desk giggling like a toddler about brown noise and the urban legend around spontaneous shitting caused by an infamous musical note. This was inspired by my colleague listening to brown noise to concentrate. I am a very serious lawyer.

For the price of a return ticket to Liverpool to visit my mum, I could have a week in the sun with cocktails. It’s not even a direct train! I crossed the whole of Czechia last year for under £20. This time, I’ll be driving north as apparently, it’s the budget option now.

Life’s been heavy, but this weekend felt like a warm hug , capped off with a last-minute invite to see The Magnetic Fields perform 69 Love Songs. Their mix of witty, melancholy, and deadpan musical magic filled the room with joy and laughter. Lo-fi synths, dry humor, and pure heart. I needed that.

It’s always fascinating how the body recalls things even when your mind isn’t quite focussed. Woke up this morning feeling really melancholy and realised it’s four years since a great friend passed away from bowel cancer. I felt bad for momentarily forgetting but the body remembers always.

There’s no guarantee I would get a rescue dog, but I can’t help thinking I would likely change her name to Daphne if I did, as I had always intended on getting a Daphne to accompany my cats Niles and Frasier (who passed away a couple of years ago).

Mooched the local Dogs Trust page as I often do whilst doing a little procrastination and now I’m in love with a tiny terrier. VERY dog broody right now.

Such a shame this wasn’t sustained throughout this basho. Strong finish for papa but he’s likely going to drop down. Ridiculously hyped to see these guys in the flesh next month.

We watched The Invisible Man (2020) last night, it was a tad triggering. It isn’t just a psych horror, it’s the terror of not being believed, of an abuser’s presence that lingers. Relentless. Elisabeth Moss is great. Proves the worst kind of ghost is your abusive ex. Scary as it’s true.

Times really are changing. After 27 years at BBC, Louis Theroux will be presenting his doc on online misogyny for Netflix. Really interesting to see how this will affect his editorial.

Today’s sauna musings: overheard 20 something girls swapping hostel fumble stories with avoidantly attached men and “living in the Amazon was, like, amaaazing” delivered with the exact intonation you’re imagining. Oh like wow you don’t look your age - you really MUST go travelling.
