Drafted a book review today! Hoping to get that revised and edited and out the door on sub by the end of next week.

There are some other presses with November-December windows I'd like to aim for too, both speculative-focused, but I'm not sure if the ms that's ready is the right type of thing for either of them. Might shoot the shot with one and not the other, we'll see.

Okay there's a small press with an open reading period in November that I'm going to try for with the wwi book. A month to get it polished up, that's doable.

Started a new project, sci-fi with sports. Keeping things small, 500 words per day. I still need to finish revisions on the WWI project and then figure out whether I'll try submitting it or go right to selfpubbing. I'm trying to go slow and easy with everything and not wear myself out. :\

Writing: on a focused project (rather than brainstorming/playing with ideas), I go for 10 500-word days per month. That's 5k per month and a rate I can keep up without overly pressuring myself. Editing: get the full manuscript printed and go through it with a pen, fixing mechanical errors and noting

Finished reading Harmattan Season by @tochitruestory.bsky.social today. Really deft worldbuilding with magic in French-colonized Africa, trusting the reader to figure things out without handholding. Highly recommended.

I am one of the many grieving that Melanie Rawn will never finish the Exiles series. Still glad I read the ones that exist, and I have reread them more than once! There's a lot of story to love even without things being wrapped up.

Another submission out the door. I have a fractured finger that's going to be in a splint for another month so typing is awkward/frustrating, handwriting is basically impossible, and I haven't really been doing any writing at all as a consequence. But at least I got this one out again!

Got another short story out on sub; haven't been able to write lately for various reasons but I have a few things out and that's nice.

How do you tell if you hate the project you're working on because it's just the stage of the process where you hate it vs you hate it because it's not working vs you just hate it full stop

There's a market opening soon that I really would like to keep trying for but the rejections from them always come so fast that I'm pretty sure the editors and I just aren't on the same wavelength. Torn between "just keep at it" and "stop wasting both parties' time with simply incompatible things."

reading a very Literary book and it's giving me ideas for specfic. it's in translation, too, so I could really confuse a writer in Spain by thanking him in the notes of those ideas if they bloom.

That bad air quality in Michigan right now (spillover from the Canadian wildfires) has me thinking vaguely about something set on a planet with bad AQ and relevant adaptations for the community, but I need to think some more.

Almost done revising one project and not quite halfway into drafting the next one. Need to revise and submit a short story this week, too. Busy busy but feeling okay about them! Not sure what I'll work on next. The high fantasy epic has been on pause for a few months, maybe go back to that?

Finally got the beginning to work for the next novella project. Mostly I operate on worrying about editing later but I have to have the beginning right before I can get rolling.

Another story submission out the door tonight. Feels like an accomplishment.

Finished the draft! 51,500 words; not sure if that will cut back or grow in revision. I need to do a read-through and get a better sense of the shape of it and what needs to be changed. But first, letting it sit for week or two! Then I'll get it printed, do a markup read-through, go from there. :)
