14th completed game of 2026 is Quest 64 (1998). I bounced off of this at release, because it was the first JRPG I'd played. The Merrow mod rebalances it into a lovely little adventure, however! The writing is atrocious, but the Parasite Eve-esque combat and sprawling world design are marvelous.

13th completed game of 2026 is Doom II: Hell on Earth (1994). Lots of cool new monster designs and experimental level structures. My only criticism is that stages in the final third of the game were often a bit too long and/or complex for this engine. The super shotgun rules.

I'm still in its early hours, but Pragmata makes a very strong first impression - yet another gameplay-forward hit from Capcom. At this point, I'm convinced they're better now than they were in the '90s.

12th completed game of 2026 is Darkest Dungeon 2 (2021), a punishing roguelike that rewards persistence with delightfully Lovecraftian prose, very deep resource management, and lush presentation. It's a significant improvement from its predecessor, and kept me hooked through the final confrontation.

11th completed game of 2026 is Metroid Prime (2002). I'd bounced off it before, but this time I persevered through its myriad patience-trying elements (spongy enemies, sparse save points, and a baffling late-game fetch quest). At least the world design and movement were very cool! I rate it a 7/10.

10th completed game of 2026 is Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse (1990). Very few negatives to speak of here, except perhaps Mickey's languid walking speed. It's short, sweet, and full of cool sprites (including a library where you're miniature - always a treat).

Geez louise, do you ever think about how sustained the current Resident Evil quality is? We've more or less had RE back from Revelations 2 (2015) to present. Sure as heck beats the original quality run from 1996-2002! I really appreciate how well Capcom's team is delivering on this legacy series.

9th completed game of 2026 is Indiana Jones & The Great Circle (2024). This is *exactly* what I want from a licensed game - it's actually better than every Indiana Jones movie besides Raiders! The puzzles and combat are fun, but it's especially carried by the strength of its lead voice performances.

Finally watched The Bay (2012), a found-footage horror movie about a mysterious parasitic outbreak in the Chesapeake Bay. I strongly recommend it, as long as you have a strong stomach.

8th completed game of 2026 is Resident Evil: Requiem (2026). It's a great - if perhaps overstuffed - tribute to the best parts of the franchise. It has spooks, camp, action, surprisingly emotional beats, and even a couple laugh-out-loud moments. Can't wait to replay it!

The new Resident Evil game is indeed very good, and is also very scary. We're definitely back in RE7 territory (during the Grace portions).

Fellow podcasters: do you know why audio on a given voice track would repeatedly desync (shortening the track, maybe due to the mic dropping out when there's no audio detected)? This is happening suddenly for one of our hosts without any settings being changed, and it makes editing very tough!
