Beat AI sycophancy with my âteam of rivalsâ prompt
This prompt was featured in my Thrive at Work newsletter. Subscribe to this free biweekly newsletter to get practical, inspiring ideas for your digital working life. How do you get AI to tell you not just what you want to hear, but what you need to hear? In my recent article for The Wall Street Journal, I describe one approach: Ask AI to generate a "team of rivals" that will give you feedback from a range of perspectives.

Use AI to adjust the timing on your keynote, speech, workshop or meeting
AI can help you adjust your meeting or presentation on the flyâby preparing a game plan with alternate scenarios depending on how conversation unfolds. Use this prompt to generate a table like the one below, and then save a screenshot of that table to your phone or tablet for easy reference during your meeting. You could even go old school and print it out!

How you use AI is a daily choice of how you want to practice being a human. You can use
#AI
to practice being an asshole. Or you can use it to practice being kind and polite. Don't let anyone convince you that's a waste of energy.

Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

I get not wanting to do mass anti-Trump protests again. The monsters running the country won't be moved by our outrage. But the blue state doctors and hospitals caving to them can be swayed/shamed/toughened up into doing the right thing, so if you can make it to this, please come out.

I've been very touched to see American friends expressing their desire to buy Canadian as a way of showing solidarity in the face of Trump's destructive tariffs. While Tim Horton's is no longer Canadian (it's owned by the same folks who own Burger King and Popeyes), there are lots of Canadian companies that sell their products in the US and beyond.
