Today marked a truly special occasion with the ribbon cutting of the new John R. Webb VFW Post 3285 - the 1st VFW post built from the ground up in 20+ years nationwide. This facility will serve thousands of veterans across Frederick County, providing a space for connection where veterans are valued.

It was a momentous day at the Investiture of Brett Engler as an Associate Judge of the District Court of Maryland Eleventh District, with a packed courtroom! Judge Engler, a dedicated servant of the law, tirelessly advocates for victims of domestic violence and raises awareness about its dangers.

This morning, I joined other officials from Frederick City, the County, and the state for the Legislative Breakfast at the Frederick County Association of REALTORS®. We shared their visions for the key issues, conversations, and legislation that will shape 2026, such as affordable housing.

I want to extend my deep gratitude for Speaker Adrienne Jones and her exceptional leadership of the Maryland House of Delegates. As the first woman and first Black Speaker in Maryland history, I have valued our partnership over the past six years on critical issues to better Frederick County!

I had the honor of presenting a proclamation at the Human Relations Commission's Annual Human Rights Day Legislative Luncheon. We heard an insightful presentation on the Invasion of Privacy from guest speaker Joyce King, Chief Counsel at the Frederick County State's Attorney Office.

Frederick County relies on our fare-free Transit Services, which have greatly increased accessibility. To ensure this service continues, proposed legislation will dedicate a portion of recordation tax revenues to fund Transit Services. This will keep local buses fare-free without raising taxes!

I attended the FCBIA Holiday Luncheon & Installation! We welcomed Jerry Connelly as FCBIA's 2026 President. New officers from the Young Professionals Builders Council, Multifamily Council, and Professional Women in Building Council were sworn in and Rick Weldon was honored for his contributions.

I was grateful to volunteer this morning with Mission of Mercy to distribute food to those in need. With over 20 dedicated volunteers working together to sort and bag food, it was lovely to see the Frederick County community come together to support our neighbors!

I had a fantastic time attending the West Frederick Library community meeting! I heard everyone's insights on the design, emphasizing the importance of creating a cohesive space that effectively balances areas for children, computer access, and dedicated spaces for older adults.

I enjoyed teaming up with Asbury UMC and Helping Hearts and Caring Hearts to distribute over 600 Thanksgiving turkeys and dinner kits to our neighbors! I was grateful to be joined by more than 15 volunteers who are committed to uplifting Frederick County. It was a wonderful display of community!

Loved attending the Frederick Center's FASHIONABLY LATE Grand Opening! A little over a year after their move to the new building, they are officially opening their LGBTQ+ community center to the public! During these times of intense hatred, it is so important to have positive spaces like this.

Congratulations to House of Colour East Frederick on their Grand Opening! I was thrilled to welcome them at the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. House of Colour is all about empowering individuals to find their best-fit colors and styles, boosting confidence through expert color analysis.

I am announcing upcoming changes to Frederick County's New Jobs Tax Credit program to the County Council. It provides tax credits to businesses that construct/expand by at least 5,000 square feet in a priority funding area and will need to pay at least the average wage to qualify for the tax credit.

I had a productive morning at the FCPS Maryland SCOPE meeting, where we engaged in meaningful discussions focused on supporting FCPS goals. We addressed the current budget, challenges, and how to align Maryland's Blueprint with our priorities to maximize student impact.

I spoke at the Fall Quarterly Conference of the Maryland Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, where I discussed the importance of collaboration, coordination, and partnership. I also shared key business issues, regionalism, and the need for strong partnerships with stakeholders in housing.

The FCBIA's inaugural Housing Symposium was full of insightful conversations about the focus from affordable housing to broader affordability issues. When we invest in housing, like my administration reviewing zoning ordinances, we invest in a Frederick County where everyone can thrive.
