A significant part of my professional life was focused on preventing a war with Iran. We succeeded in containing their nuclear program without putting troops in harm’s way. Trump has lied about this for a decade and within the next 72 hours is likely to march foolishly into an optional war. 1/x

Trump’s military actions, in both terms, have been surgical strikes to win the news cycle, claim victory, and move on. Iran is not that type of problem, but his attention span is the wildcard here. Could easily see a world where the ayatollahs fall but IRGC generals remain.
